Player and Family Commitment to a Travel Team

While travel teams are exciting and rewarding for players and parents, it is crucial that all involved are aware of the considerable commitment before agreeing to participate. Many tournaments are located outside the Atlanta metro area. At the extreme, play for some teams may extend from Memorial Day to the beginning of the school year in August if the teams progress into national play.

The teams will require varying financial commitments depending on the amount of travel necessary to complete the team's tournament "runs." Prior to a player's final selection for a travel team, each parent will be required to complete a form agreeing to the appropriate time, scheduling, and financial commitment necessary for that particular team. Parents should also understand that travel teams operate differently from our spring regular season teams.

Minimum required play rules do not apply to travel teams. If selected to a team, there is no guarantee of playing time. Unlike regular season baseball at SAA, which emphasizes learning and shared playing time while offering a competitive environment, the primary goal of our travel teams is to WIN. Accordingly, travel team coaches are given total discretion in the allocation of playing time.

Parents are not required to agree with, but must tolerate without complaint or amelioration, those managerial decisions. SAA travel teams compete on higher levels of play. They are geared to prepare our skilled players for high school and college.
